MBK to SIAM PARAGON, BANGKOK

I guess this walk from MBK to Siam Paragon is a frequent route for tourists in Bangkok and even for the locals, too.

I realized this when Charm commented on this in my Siam Paragon blog!

I would also like to share with you some scenes along the MBK to Siam Paragon.

MBK. MBK Center, also known as Mahboonkrong, is a large shopping mall in Bangkok, Thailand

The multi-storey MBK is probably Bangkok's most legendary shopping mall, popular with both tourists and locals. Eight floors packed with 2,000 shops that sell everything from clothing, fashion accessories, handbags, leather products and luggage to furniture, mobile phones, electric appliances, cameras, stationery and DVDs. MBK (launched in 1986) is a beehive of activity, especially on weekends, when half of Bangkok converges to shop for bargains. It's not as up-market or stylish as neighbouring Siam DiscoverySiam Centre and the glitzy Siam Paragon, but it offers a mind-boggling range of goods spread over 89,000 square metres and is considerably less expensive.

To start with, fashion outlets cover everything from jeans, outsized clothing (for the 'larger' Western frame), shoes, handbags, accessories, jewellery, trendy apparel and famous-name brands. The bargain prices of many of these items mean that merchandise is often copy products or from questionable origin. It's important to take a closer look at the quality and craftsmanship.
But if your idea of a shopping bargain is to pay a few dollars for an Adidas T-shirt or a Gucci belt – and authenticity is not an issue – head straight to MBK. Many of the products that can be found here are similar to that at markets, but the convenience of shopping in an air-conditioned environment beats hot and sticky markets – especially in the hot season.
And, just like the markets, all prices are negotiable; MBK is probably the only mall in Bangkok where you can put your bartering skills to the test. You'll be surprised how much a big smile can knock of the original asking price. If you're shopping wholesale, prices get even more competitive.

Siam Discovery is less about glitz and glam and more about sophistication. The collection of shops here caters to young urbanites and families. Standing among its glittering neighbours, it may not have that ‘wow’ effect but offers a good selection of designer fashion outlets and cutting-edge brands.

Expect popular local fashion designers and global brand names as well as European established names such as Guess? Kenneth Cole, Karen Millen, DKNY, Diesel and Pleats Please by Issey Miyake, Shiseido, Mac, Swarovski, iStudio, and many more. A number of home d├ęcor and hip interior design stores also have their showrooms here, among them Loft, Propaganda, Doi Tung Lifestyle, Nandakwang and Gilles Caffier.

Here’s your chance to brush shoulders with your favourite Hollywood stars, local celebrities, sports heroes and heroines, even heads of state. Madame Tussauds has opened its 10th attraction in Bangkok, with a revolutionary concept – the wax museum with exhibits you can touch, hug, play with and even kiss.

Siam Paragon.

Home to more than 250 famed international and local luxury brands, Siam Paragon is a consumer 'heaven' with boutiques and flagship stores of the world's top-notch designer names like Gucci, Prada, Louis Vuitton, Dior, Versace, Burberry and Hermes. Floors are divided into Luxury Living, Fashion Venue, Lifestyle & Leisure, Living & Technology, IT & Paragon Passage, and Explorium & Global Entertainment. And that's not even counting the world-class aquarium, Siam Ocean World on the basement floor, or the stylish restaurants, Gourmet Market and Food Hall on the ground level

Well, quite a walk! We did most of the shopping in MBK where we could enjoy haggling in Bangkok! But, for those who want the high-end shopping, Siam Discovery and Siam Paragon could easily accommodate your taste!
